English, a must pass in SPM?

this topic has been a very hot issue, highlighting the front pages of many newspapers these days. In fact, to me, it isn't supposed to be such a big issue but then again, since we live in Malaysia, yes it is to many especially those who are weak in the English subject. As a student, i would definitely agree with this motion of making English a must pass for SPM, it's mainly because English is already an international language. I believe this view is supported by our Education Minister himself was expressed his shock when he knew that English wasn't a compulsory passing subject for SPM. His shock actually makes me think.. what was he doing all the while when he was being an Education Minister such that now only he realized about it, lol. Next would be what was our ex-Education Minister was doing not making English a compulsory 1 (anyway, he sucked in his job, so yea, skip this question, no wonder he got replaced, hahahaha)

1st of all, when we set up such a motion, defnitely there'll be 2 groups (of cuz there are the neutral ones, but there are 2 obvious ones) which are the one supporting and the one opposing. The 1 supporting are definitely those whose their child are good in English, perhaps excelling in it while the 1 opposing are those who are weak in it. If we were to talk about races, it's obvious, no need to say at all but there are also Chinese who are weak in it, for my school, they are the ones playing basketball like pro basketballers (but the true fact, nah, only got style, shooting position also dunno, lol). It always make me laugh watching them play basketball cuz they don't even know how to position their hands on the ball in the 1st place, their hand position for shooting is exactly like the hand position for receiving a ball from your partner and definitely with that, their scoring success is much lower which is also why we should watch anime. I learn the shooting position for basketballers and some other stuffs from Slam Dunk, a basketball anime, humorous too btw.

So, ya, back to the topic. When there are these 2 groups.. definitely we cant reach any agreement especially when the Government is asking for feedbacks from the citizens. Goodness, it's like everyone knows making English compulsory is good because of various reasons, more than half of the world is speaking it? Everywhere you work requires English especially professional jobs, communication purposes, paperworks, and many other reasons. Without solid English or perhaps good English, it would seriously be a big problem for the students. But of course, parents of the children with poor English are blinded with the thinking that "if my son/daughter doesn't get his SPM cert, he'll be doomed" but what do they not see is that if their child ever pass with bad English result, will anyone even take them? Why not let them fail and let them learn from it, even if it's a few years but if it's beneficial for them in the future, why not? What if i let your child take the SPM cert with a F for English, will anyone hire them? Will any college or uni take them in? That's the big question. But if i were to fail your whole SPM, but after retaking it with probably a B or the best A1, defnitely it'll be a brighter tertiary education for your child. Not to mention it'll prevent grouping when they're in college. Grouping in a sense that these students who's not good in English mix with those pro in Hokkien, Mandarin or Cantonese only, those kinds.

Anyway, i think i read about the feedbacks in the newspaper, which most of them giving a negative feedback regarding this problem. It clearly shows how "wide" can the people in Malaysia think. Protecting your child is not the way to save him, exposing his to the dangers with him facing it with guidance is what that will save him. How long can you be in this world protecting him? Why not guiding him all way you can, teaching him all the fundamental stuffs which he needs in life for him to go on with his life without your guidance, that's what i would call saving your child, rather than over-protecting him with him suffering in the future when you're gone. If you ask me, definitely i'll say a big yes to this motion. English should be a must pass subject in SPM just for 1 simple reason, for the students' future. No point asking feedbacks when the people are so blinded and that's adults for you, cool. If i can be at an average standard in my English, why not you guys? I'm also a student, same age, same education and same country, it's all up to the will of each student to excel in any subject, but of course with some rationality from the adults to support such a, i would say smart motion. It's not like BM will be eradicated once English is compulsory, just that maybe they'll make every other subjects to pass too in the future, lol. Anyway, if they ever reject this motion, i'll understand why Malaysia will remain as a third world country.
