this would be a short post mainly about an hourglass tower. Today we built up a 80% complete hourglass tower, it was our very first time and I could say it's a successful trial of building it. Cool huh? it all started when i proposed the idea of building it since we failed to do so last year under the 2007/2008's batch. I was a little part of the team since I was the recruit back then and seeing how they failed made me think of the way to improvise it which I did and it was good that they got us involved last year. So, this time we tried it out, although it was just a small 1 but it's still rather an achievement. Now, let's talk about.
This morning, we had a co-curriculum meeting, which means Scout meeting. We left it in the hands of the Form 3 since they have sketch meeting to discuss about for their Investiture Night. So, we got our bamboos ready by just picking out 20+ bamboos from the ones we brought back from Pentarafan. Then, we brought it to the field and made 2 four-port. 1 bigger used for the base and 1 smaller used for the platform where we stand on it. Last time when we do it, they wasted lots of strength by using the wrong way to do it. Perhaps it was correct but a waste of time and energy because they tied the four-port used for the base means they include the one not tied to the top and since it'll be in the sky, how would they be able to tie it? Even if they do by putting it down sideways, will it be a square or even a rectangle? I doubt it. So, this time we reverse the idea whereby we tie the top and go through from down. then, we tie up some bamboos as "penahan"s. and start tying did some mousing. So it was nice but sadly, a few of my team was playing a fool when they're supposed to watch whether the tower is straight or not. So, it ended up a bit bent to the right. Just a little though, perhaps 5° or so, which I feel it's a lot though because I was aiming for near perfection or perfection and show it off to the juniors who were nearby there preparing their sketch and so on. So.. nah.. the plan was canceled, it'll be humiliating for 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 seniors building it but ended up a bit wrong especially when 5 future King Scouts are there, lol.
I still remember last year it was a joke when we failed to build up the hourglass tower. Wasted some precious energy, materials and time there. The likes of Govirhandas was there helping to carry the top hourglass and so on and in the end, the plan was scrapped.. We had like 6 recruits and 10 seniors there doing it, which means 16 doubling the amount of today. Lol, the factor that contributed to their failure was that they didn't plan it out nicely and didn't use the proper technique because the year before them didnt do it and also the ones before, i think the tradition was in a halt after Chan Hoong's year. Their batch was solid shit man. That time I was still in Form 1, watching building up all the big big stuffs got me astonished yet they barely broke a sweat, especially when comparing them to their juniors, the year after them, and i heard the years before them were more owning... I wonder how would we be able to grasp such glory back again, our batch can retain some back, but not up to that standard. It's hard when most of my batch doesn't have the same mind as me, thinking of the troop. Some of them are so selfish that they get themselves god damn involved for Kem Sikap and Kem Pentarafan yet for a troop camp, you can barely see their face anywhere or anytime. Such selfishness is what I truly hate, especially when they promised to put the troop more important than themselves in the Investiture Night. I don't shout "Ya, tuan" in the Investiture Night for nothing. I shout it out loud as I mean it but sad to say, some are not. They shout it because they have to in order to be a senior. Looks like it's getting out of topic, let's get back to it. (sorry about it, haha)
So, tomorrow we'll be trying it out again. Cool huh? At least half of us are still dedicated enough to make our last year in this troop memorable. One for all, all for one. So, i hope can i remember taking a picure of it and post it up here. If i remember, or perhaps I wait for 1 that we build perfectly, only I post it up, if not, it'll be humiliating, haha...
